Damian Lillard is the talk of the NBA on Friday after it has been reported that the superstar is expected to request a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers in the coming days.

Damian Lillard has been tied to the Lakers and Warriors. But according to a couple of insiders, Philadelphia 76ers general manager Daryl Morey has had his eyes on Lillard since the team’s offseason began.

Marc Stein, who previously covered the NBA for ESPN, reported Morey’s interest in Damian Lillard.

“All teams covet the biggest stars, but Morey is especially obsessive about it. He will surely tune out the naysayers who suggest Simmons can no longer be the centerpiece for the acquisition of a Bradley Beal-type superstar. Portland’s CJ McCollum has been mentioned often as a potential Sixers target in a Simmons deal; rest assured that Morey longs for Damian Lillard if he is targeting any Trail Blazer,” Stein recently wrote.

The semantics of a 76ers-Trail Blazers trade would be tricky. But you’d have to believe that Morey is going to exhaust every opportunity to land Damian Lillard if he believes it’s a possibility.

It’s becoming more and more clear that Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid don’t mesh well, and it’s not going to be easy to build around those two guys for the future.

But Damian Lillard would give Philadelphia a whole new look. And they’d surely be the favorites to win the NBA Championship if they were able to pull off the deal.

Selfishly, I’d love to see Damian Lillard in Philadelphia next season. He has deserved to be on a team that gives him a real shot at a ring for a long time now.
