Find somebody who loves you as much as Dallas Cowboys fans loved their mediocre quarterback.
Tony Romo never really accomplished too much in Dallas, didn’t really win the big game, never really rose to the occasion, but boy did Dallas embrace him anyways. Sure, Romo was a gamer, but to act like he’s some sort of legend is just asinine.

That’s why today’s social media activity from Cowboys fans made no sense to me. Linebacker Jaylon Smith is said to want to wear Romo’s old #9 for next season. Smith donned the #9 jersey throughout high school and college, and he wants to wear it again.
Some Cowboys fans were upset at the youngster trying to take Tony Romo’s number.
Cut him. Then, he can wore 9 in another NFL Team

The #NFL has passed a rule that would allow linebackers to wear a lower number.
Jaylon Smith reportedly wants to wear #9, would that bother you considering it’s Romo’s number? #DallasCowboys pic.twitter.com/cTOIxq35VW

That’s Romo # bro haha
I know there’s fans who don’t like Romo lol
But Jerry alone won’t let that happen haha he will “retire” & put #9 in ring of honor before he let Jaylon wear it honestly haha— Noah Hernandez (@NoahHernandez_3) April 6, 2021
I refuse to have an opinion about Jaylon Smith wanting to change his jersey number.
He doesn't play the same position as Romo. The rule hasn't even passed. And it's, y'know, a jersey number. Surely there's more pressing stuff to talk about.

Other people were critical of fans caring about some else taking the number that Tony Romo used to wear.
So @thejaylonsmith wanting to wear #9 is disrespectful to Romo, y’all do realize the #54 he wears now was worn by HOF Randy White. It’s just a number, but please don’t hold Romo in higher regard than White

I love Romo, but if you guys are telling me that he is the bar for nobody ever touching his number 9 jersey again….we might need to review how many numbers have exceeded that threshold and the Cowboys will need to switch to letters soon on the jerseys. #CmonMan

Jaylon Smith wore 9 in college and high school. He would like to wear in the NFL.
And for you Romo truthers, just know that a greater Cowboys player than him wore 54.
33 has also been worn by so called lesser players. pic.twitter.com/8fowXNRHC1— Clarence Hill Jr (@clarencehilljr) April 6, 2021
This seems like a rather contentious topic for Dallas fans.
I think people are going to have to accept the fact that someone else will wear #9 at some point for the Dallas Cowboys. Tony Romo simply wasn’t that good. You gotta respect the passion from all the fans, though.
