Coach K went viral last week when he completely lashed out at a student reporter after the Blue Devils lost to Louisville 70-65 on Saturday. The student asked a general question about the team’s mindset moving forward after a disappointing start to the season, and Mike Krzyzewski wasn’t having any of it. The reporter took to Twitter to share his experience.

“This was not exactly how I expected my first postgame question to Coach K to go,” he wrote.

The student received a lot of support from journalists and fellow students, and coach K even ended up calling to apologize for the way he handled the question.

Jake Piazza recounted the phone call with the coaching legend to the Duke Chronicle.

“My phone rang and Coach K was on the other end of the line,” Piazza said. “Our call was short, but the sincerity in his apology was genuine. And in the end, I appreciated the call.”

Definitely not the best look for coach K here. I’m sure this kid was scared out of his mind to ask a questions, but felt the need to do so. Also, the question wasn’t even that bad. Just give the kid a vanilla answer and move on. To lash out like that was completely unwarranted. Even if you’re coming off a tough loss.

Kudos to Coach K for recognizing he was wrong and reaching out to the reporter. Duke is now 5-5 on the season, and in desperate need to string together some wins.
