The Clay Helton era for the USC Trojans appears to be over.

After USC got beat in every facet at home against Stanford over the weekend, many fans were hoping that the school would just pull the plug on Helton now, giving them a head start on a coaching search.

It appears that fans have gotten their wish, as it has been reported on Monday that Clay Helton has been fired by the university.

Fans immediately reacted to the Clay Helton news.

After it was reported that Clay Helton was fired, many fans were curious to know who would be potential candidates to replace the coach. So far, that isn’t clear. But Associate HC Donte Williams will take over the position for the remainder of the season.

Since beginning at USC, Helton has gone 46-24, but has failed to keep the program in the conversation of a National Championship as they had been accustomed to.

The decision to make the Stanford loss the last straw for Clay Helton really begs the question, why even keep him around to begin the season?
