Chicago Cubs Manager David Ross ‘Hopeful’ Players Get Vaccine After COVID Issue

Chicago Cubs manager David Ross is aware of the ramifications that could be lying ahead for his team if they decide not to get the COVID-19 vaccine. The Cubs are starting to see that right now. After bullpen coach Chris Young tested positive for COVID, the team originally said that three other players would be going on the IL (not the COVID list).

It has now been revealed that the players have tested positive for the virus, and will be away from the team for the time being.

Despite the COVID issue, the Cubs are expected to play their game against the Milwaukee Brewers tonight. Prior to the game, David Ross was asked if he thinks this situation will encourage his guys to take the vaccine.

“We’re definitely hopeful,” Ross said via Gordon Wittenmyer of NBC Sports Chicago. “We’re hopeful that guys can see the value in being vaccinated… But, again, each guy makes their choices.”

This is sure to be a topic of conversation in the sports world (as well as every other world) for a long time to come. If players opt against taking the vaccine, we will likely continue to see instances such as the Cubs situation where the teams are affected or games have to be postponed.

Hopefully enough people decide to get the vaccine, it works, and we get back to normal life in sports and everywhere else very soon. Like David Ross, all we can do is hope.
