Chicago Cubs Decline Their Option On Jon Lester

The Chicago Cubs and Jon Lester might be. After six years in Chicago, the Cubs and Lester have decided to “mutually part ways.”

Here’s what Lester had to say on the matter.

“The feeling is mutual on both sides that we want to try to get something done,” Lester said via MLB Trade Rumors.

Lester is holding the door open for a possible return to the Chicago Cubs. Lester was a horse for the Cubs. As a Chicago sports fan, it’s hard to picture a more impactful free agent signing in the city’s sports history.

Lester is coming off the worst year of his career in the shortened season, so the market for the veteran lefty might be tough. He had a lofty 5.16 ERA.

It remains to be seen if this is it for Lester. Just in case, Lester is buying beer for Cubs fans all weekend through Chicago bars. However, it’ll have to be outdoors. Chicago has shut down all indoor seating for the foreseeable future due to the COVID-19 virus.
