Willson Contreras’ Social Media Activity Hints He’s Fed Up With Cubs Organization

Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras must feel like the last man standing after the team’s sell-spree at last year’s Trade Deadline.

Contreras now finds himself as the lone position player from the Cubs core that included Kris Bryant, Javier Baez and Anthony Rizzo. And now, Willson might be on his way out, as well.

Willson Contreras is set to play the last year of his Cubs contract in 2022. But with no extension coming for the star backstop, he took to social media to remove all Cubs affiliation from his Instagram page.

With the season looming, Willson Contreras admitted that it’s a long shot that he gets anywhere with extension talks, saying it would be a “dream come true” to hit free agency this next Winter.

Chicago Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer also admitted that the team was prioritizing other needs, admitting that an extension for Willson Contreras has been put on the back-burner.

“Right now with every team it’s incredibly busy trying to fill out a roster. This is a condensed window,” said Hoyer, via Yahoo.

“You want to get guys in camp as quickly as you can,” he said. “Not all those deals are going to come together right away, but that’s certainly the goal.

“As far as our own guys, once we have kind of filled out our roster, that’s something we’ll re-address.”

It certainly seems like Willson Contreras has maybe had enough of being an afterthought by his own management. And after all the changeover he’s had to endure over the past year, can you really blame him?
