Chicago Bears fans are pretty universal in their belief that they want head coach Matt Nagy gone.

The general consensus is that the team would look for a young offensive mind to pair with Justin Fields if Nagy were to be shown the door. of those candidates would include the likes of Brian Daboll, Kellen Moore, Byron Leftwicf, etc.

But a new report coming out of Chicago doesn’t mention any of those names. According to Sports Mockery, the Bears are interested in hiring someone with NFL head coaching experience to replace Matt Nagy.

The article would go on to list two names to watch if/when Matt Nagy is fired: former Eagles coach Doug Pederson and Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh.

The Pederson link doesn’t make much sense to me. He’s known as a good friend of Matt Nagy, and even made a guest appearance at the Bears’ Training Camp. Replacing Nagy with another guy with a similar offensive mind seems counterproductive, not to mention how messy it got at the end of his run in Philly.

Jim Harbaugh would also be a largely unpopular hire in Chicago, but I think it’s a more likely fit. Harbaugh has been adamant that he’s staying at Michigan, but he’s still never beaten Ohio State there. And perhaps the opportunity to return to the Bears (where he spent time playing) would be too much for him to pass up.

Matt Nagy will likely be given the rest of the season to try to save his job. But if ownership listens to their fan base and fires the head coach, it could be possible that they replace him with someone who isn’t considered a top candidate.
