Rumors of Sean Payton leaving The Saints For The Bears Continue To Persist

After a few days of heavy speculation, it is now being reported that Sean Payton has made his decision on the future of his coaching career with the Saints

Would Sean Payton actually consider leaving New Orleans for the Chicago Bears gig?

Whether or not there’s any merit to the rumors remains to be seen. But that won’t stop a slew of insiders from openly questioning if Chicago would try to trade for the accomplished coach in the offseason.

The latest NFL reporter who has brought up the idea of Sean Payton replacing Matt Nagy in Chicago was SI’s Abert Breer – who went on with Colin Cowherd’s “The Herd” on Wednesday to speak on the likelihood of Payton being the next Bears head coach.

Here’s what he had to say:

“I THINK THERE ARE TWO ROADS THEY CAN TAKE, AND I’M ASSUMING MATT’S GOING TO BE GONE. ONE ROAD IS THE OBVIOUS ONE. YOU’VE GOT A YOUNG QUARTERBACK. BRING IN AN OFFENSIVE GUY TO DEVELOP HIM. SO I THINK YOU LOOK AT A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT GUYS. DO YOU HOLD ONTO THE GENERAL MANAGER RYAN PACE IF HE CONVINCES YOU THAT HE CAN LAND SEAN PAYTON? I THINK THAT’S ONE NAME TO JUST SORT OF KEEP AN EYE ON. I DON’T KNOW IF SEAN WOULD WANT TO LEAVE NEW ORLEANS BUT IF I’M THE BEARS I’M AT LEAST ASKING.”

So far, Sean Payton has not been asked about his potential interest in leaving New Orleans. But it’s worth noting that he grew up in a suburb of Chicago, being a Bears fan for most of his life.

On top of that, the Saints appear to be at a crossroads right now – and willl lean on temporary fill-ins Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill at quarterback until they find a long term fix.

In Chicago, Payton would at least know that his main job would be to turn Justin Fields into a franchise quarterback.

It’s still in the pipe dream phase for Bears fans. But you’d think the Bears should call the Saints to ask what the price would be for Sean Payton, at the very least.
