Could a Cam Newton – Ron Rivera reunion be in the works?

During the Week One loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, Rivera’s Washington Football Team had to endure some difficult circumstances when quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick went down with a hip injury.

On Monday, it was revealed that Fitzpatrick could be out for a while with the injury.

After Ryan Fitzpatrick’s injury was revealed, fans were calling for Ron Rivera to make a call into to his old friend, Cam Newton.

Newton and Rivera enjoyed a lot of success together during their time with the Carolina Panthers, including an MVP for Newton and a trip to the Super Bowl.

But so far, it appears that Washington is intent on using their in-house QBs to replace Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Cam Newton was outed as unvaccinated due to a problem with protocols during Training Camp, which could rub Ron Rivera the wrong way.

Rivera is considered at-risk following his cancer last year. And he has been vocal about his disappointment with the unvaccinated guys on his team.

Also, Washington has seen backup QB Taylor Heinicke have some success over the past couple of years. When Fitzpatrick went down on Sunday, Heinicke  completed 11 of 15 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown. Washington would go on to lose, 20–16.

For now, there will be no move for Cam Newton from the Washington Football Team.
