Free-agent quarterback Cam Newton said he didn’t see his release from the New England Patriots coming in his first remarks since the team cut him 10 days ago. Newton said he was in the room with Head Coach Bill Belichick, Matt Patricia and QB  Mac Jones when Jones was given the starting job and Newton was cut.

Cam thinks the reason he was cut was because of his Aura.

“Can we be honest? The reason why they released me is because indirectly I was going to be a distraction, without being the starter. Just my aura. That’s my gift and my curse.”

Would he have accepted a role as Mac’s backup?

“I would’ve said absolutely.”

“Did it catch me by surprise being released? Absolutely,” Newton said in a video released Friday morning.

Cam is not considering retirement:

Cam also said that there are not 32 better quarterbacks than him and that his vaccination status had nothing to do with the Patriots’ decision.

Something isn’t adding up.

We’ll see if  Cam gets picked up by someone at some point. I’m not holding my breath.
