Not only did Mac Jones edge out Cam Newton for the New England Patriots’ starting quarterback job.

But on Tuesday morning, it was shockingly revealed that the Patriots had no plans to keep Cam around to back up Mac Jones, and would be granting the former MVP his outright release.

As fans were digesting the news, a potential landing spot for Cam Newton began to surface on the web.

The NFL world seems to be in full agreement that the Dallas Cowboys would be stupid not to bring Newton on board as Dak Prescott’s backup.

The Cam Newton to Dallas idea makes perfect sense.

If this preseason has proven anything for the Cowboys it’s that they do not have a competent situation after Dak Prescott. And also that Prescott might not even be fully healthy entering the season.

Not that Andy Dalton was anything special for the Cowboys. But he was a hell of a lot better than Cooper Rush, Garrett Gilbert, or whoever Dallas decides will be their QB2.

It’s imperative that the Cowboys find a guy who can comfortably fill in if/when Dak Prescott needs to sit following a serious injury in 2020.

Cam Newton might just be that guy.
