Bryson DeChambeau was in the news during the first round of The Open Championship after complaining (shocker) about his Cobra driver.

DeChambeau declared that his driver ‘sucks’ before elaborating.

“If I can hit it down the middle of the fairway, that’s great, but with the driver right now, the driver sucks,” DeChambeau explained. “It’s not a good face for me, and we’re still trying to figure out how to make it good on the mis-hits. I’m living on the razor’s edge, like I’ve told people for a long time.”

The big surprise was not that Bryson DeChambeau was whining, but that Cobra actually lashed out against the golfer in response.

Now, Bryson DeChambeau is apologizing for his comments on the Cobra driver.

“The comments I made in my post-round interview today was very unprofessional,” DeChambeau said. “My frustration and emotions over the way I drove the ball today boiled over. I sucked today, not my equipment. Cobra and I have worked together for over five years and they are some of the hardest working people in golf industry and make an incredible product… I am relentless in pursuit of improvement and perfection. Part of that causes me to become outwardly frustrated at times. With the new speeds I am obtaining, my game is a constant work in progress and so is controlling my emotions.”

Despite spraying his drives all over the place, Bryson DeChambeau would go on to shoot a mediocre 1-over 71 during his first round on Thursday morning.

While he sits 6 shots behind the leader at -5, DeChambeau could still play his way into the weekend with a halfway-decent second round.

We’ll wait to see if Bryson decides to move off of the Cobra driver. It seems like the company wouldn’t mind in the slightest.
