For the past few years, Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables has been linked to a ton of vacated head coaching jobs across the country. But with Lincoln Riley leaving Oklahoma, the perfect gig may have just come loose.

Venables was the DC in Norman from 2004-2011 before leaving to join Dabo Swinney at Clemson. In each spot, he has been immensely successful, winning multiple championships with the Tigers.

After Oklahoma fans flirted with he idea of poaching Kliff Kingsbury from the Arizona Cardinals. That got more rational – realizing Brent Venables was the likely guy to take their team to the SEC with success.

A ton of reports are indicating that the Clemson DC could be close to taking the Oklahoma job.

Brent Venables might not be as electric of a hire as Kliff Kingsbury (or even Lincoln Riley for that matter). But for OU to keep their run of prominence going – while moving from the BIG 12 to the SEC, they’re going to have to get tougher.

Not only would Venables bring that edge, but he also have familiarity with the program, boosters, and recruiting in the area.

Don’t be surprised if Brent Venables get named Oklahoma’s next coach very soon.
