Brad Stevens Comments On Indiana University Interest

When a coach gets fired in sports, often times a fan base will be quick to pick a long shot candidate to replace them. Call it a “dream candidate”.

When Indiana University announced the firing of basketball coach Archie Miller, that guy the fan base rallied to was Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens.

Stevens came from Butler, another college in Indiana. So it makes sense, right? Not so fast. Stevens was asked about the possibility of taking the IU job, and was quick to shut down any potential rumors.

“That’s home. I get it. I appreciate all the nice sentiments, it certainly doesn’t go unnoticed and it’s certainly very kind. … A passionate fanbase.”

Well, at least Brad Stevens respectfully let Indiana fans down. Now, the question becomes, “if not Stevens, who?”

Other top-of the-line candidates could include Baylor’s Scott Drew or Texas Tech’s Chris Beard, both of whom have completely turned around their respective programs. In all likelihood, neither of those two coaches would leave their post for the IU gig, but you never know.

Maybe a more realistic option for Indiana is former Michigan coach John Beilein, who was recently fired by the Cavs.

It certainly doesn’t sound like Brad Stevens isn’t too worried about his job security with the Boston Celtics.
