Boston University Actually Had Their Players Wear Face Masks Against Holy Cross

Boston University might be the most COVID-19 safe sports team in the entire world right now. BU implemented a new rule that requires their teams to wear masks during all of their home and away games. Obviously, this was done to help stop the spread of COVID-19, but it still looks odd when I see it.

All of the Boston University players wore matching red masks to fit their uniforms. While I do appreciate the effort, I’m not sure how effective this tactic would really be. Basketball is a game where spit and sweat is all over the place, and there’s no way basketball players could keep their nose and mouth covered for an entire game. They’re also touching the ball and the opposing team all game, so doesn’t that defeat the whole purpose?

I’m not an anti-masker by any means, but I question if this whole thing is for show. I mean, most of these guys have their masks pulled down while they’re playing anyways.

Seems like a wasted rule to me. But nonetheless, BU will likely keep this rule in place for the rest of their season. While Holy Cross didn’t have coverings on today, they’ll be required to wear the mask when they travel to Boston to play there. That will be a sight to see.

Maybe 2021 could be just as weird as 2020 after all. Boston University would go on to beat Holy Cross 83-76.
