For many years, Chicago Bears fans have been calling for the McCaskey family to sell the team amid their disappointment with the product on the field. While chairman George McCaskey has held firm that he has no plans of going anywhere, that could be changing very soon.

In a bombshell report by Jim O’Donnell of the Daily Herald, the McCaskey family is having an internal rift on whether or not they should sell the Chicago Bears.

Per the report:

“There is some internal strife going on among family members to sell … now.

The strife makes perfect sense. Even if it is opposite to prevailing thought that the franchise will never be sold as long as Mrs. Virginia McCaskey — age 98 — has an earthly say.”

The report would go on to indicate that three men are front-runners to purchase the Bears if they sell: Pat Ryan, Jeff Bezos and Neil Bluhm.

Pat Ryan, a billionaire businessman, is currently the front-runner if a sale occurs. Ryan already owns 19.7% of the team in a partnership with 91-year-old Andy McKenna.

Ryan, 83, also has two sons, Pat Ryan Jr. and Rob Ryan (not the coach), who would be interested in managing the team on a day-to-day basis.

The McCaskey/Halas family has owned the Chicago Bears since the 1920s, when they were known as the Decatur Staley’s. Legendary coach George Halas handed the team over to his daughter, Virgina McCaskey, who has put her son, George, in charge.

It’s hard to fathom a sale of the Bears from the McCaskeys. But if this report has any merit, we might be getting some fascinating news in Chicago very soon.
