Bill Belichick Says Medal Event Not Moving Forward Following Insurrection at Capitol

President Donald Trump has hit rock bottom. Even New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick wants nothing to do with the president. Belichick was recently offered the Presidential Medal of Freedom, formerly the nation’s highest civilian honor. The president has forever tarnished the award, using it to reward sycophants and cronies like congressmen Devin Nunes and Jim Jordan, who have enabled Trump’s criminal administration. Now, in the wake of last week’s heinous terrorist attack on the United States Capitol – which many feel came at the behest, or at least with the endorsement, of the president – Belichick has announced that the award event will not move forward.

Bill Belichick released a long statement discussing patriotism and mentioning that the event would not move forward in the wake of last week’s attack on the Capitol. While he never actually says he is rejecting the award, he does say that continuing in his charitable and social efforts is reward enough.

I think this is a good move by Bill Belichick. From a simple public relations perspective, it would be absurd for someone to take up the president’s cause at this stage, following such a demoralizing week in America.

Also, is it really necessary for sports figures to be given the Presidential Medal of Freedom? Sure, Bill Belichick has been one of the best football coaches of all-time in his tenure with the New England Patriots, and he has done some good work for his community, but I’m sure there are some people that would be much more deserving of an award like this. Bill Belichick this award was always a ploy, but now that the award will not move forward, Donald Trump seems to have lost another ally.
