Bill Belichick didn’t hold back when talking about the Patriots financial situation for the 2020 season. Here’s what he said on WEEI’s Ordway, Merloni & Fauria.

“We sold out and won three Super Bowls, played in a fourth, and played in an AFC Championship Game. This year we have less to work with. It’s not an excuse. It’s just the facts,” Belichick said.

Belichick’s Patriots currently sit at 2-5, four games back of the Buffalo Bills for first place in the AFC East. Needless to say, it hasn’t been the start that Belichick or Patriots nation was hoping for.

Belichick brought up the team’s financial situation, but he also insisted that he wasn’t using it as an excuse.

“I didn’t say it as an excuse. I never said that,” Belichick said. “Look, we paid Cam Newton a million dollars [on July 8]. It’s obvious we didn’t have any money. It’s nobody’s fault. That’s what we did the last five years.”

The Patriots will be forced to right the ship, or else their dynasty may be coming to an abrupt end. Tom Brady, on the other hand, has the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 5-2, and tied for first place in the NFC South.
