Baker Mayfield has been a longtime advocate for Julius Jones – the Oklahoma man who was sentenced to a death sentence for a murder he swears he did not commit.

The execution was originally set for Thursday afternoon. And on Wednesday, Mayfield got choked up when speaking on the matter.

“It’s not something that’s easy to talk about. Been trying to get the facts stated and the truth to be told for awhile now. Tried and tried. It’s a shame that its gotten this far, we’re 24 hours away … Hopefully God can intervene and handle it correctly and do the things he needs to do,” he said.

When it was announced on Thursday that Oklahoma governor Kevin Stitts was commuting Julius Jones’ death sentence, Baker Mayfield took to social media to share his excitement.

Unfortunately for Baker Mayfield, his work isn’t done.

Even though Julius Jones had his death sentence commuted, he still faces life behind bars for a crime that the Browns QB is convinced he’s innocent of.

Not only is Baker Mayfield adamant about the Julius Jones case, but Steve Kerr also sent out a message to Oklahoma’s governor on Wednesday night hoping to help save the man’s life.

“I wanted to put this video out, please share it. Please join in the fight to save an innocent man’s life. Do it for Julius. Do it for his family. Do it for our country,” Kerr said in a video posted to social media. “This cannot happen in a civilized nation and we have to keep this from happening. Do everything you can.”

Props to Baker Mayfield and others for standing up for Julius Jones.
