Aroldis Chapman Sends Rare Message To His Doubters Amid Struggles

New York Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman has been struggling mightily on the mound as of late. But his confidence has not wavered.

On Sunday, Chapman continued his stretch of poor performances when he allowed Pete Alonso to hit a game-tying home run, and allowed three earned runs without retiring a single batter. Unsurprisingly, Chapman was booed off the mound in the Bronx.

It seems like Aroldis Chapman has heard his haters loud and clear, because he took to social media (a rare move for him) to make a pledge against his critics.

“For all those people that criticize my bad moments, I will tell them that I do not know how my story ends, but in its pages you will never read, ‘I gave up,’” Chapman wrote on Twitter. “So I will move on. I still have many wars to win and many mouths to shut up.”

Since June 3, Aroldis Chapman has been downright awful. After a successful beginning of the season, Chapman has an astronomical 18.90 ERA over his past 10 appearances.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone recently indicated that he could temporarily remove Aroldis from the closers role.

“We’ve been diving in each and every day,” Boone said via The New York Post. “Between [pitching coach Matt Blake] and [bullpen coach Mike Harkey], working on delivery things, changing up some routine things, changing up some pregame things. … Obviously we gotta continue to work to get him right.”

If the Yankees want to go on a run this season, they’ll likely need Aroldis Chapman to get back to form. Whatever is going on with the All-Star closer needs to be ironed out, and soon.
