Social media blows up in Chicago and New York after it was reported that longtime Cub Anthony Rizzo was being traded to the Yankees

Anthony Rizzo was the face of the Chicago Cubs since he came to the MLB for the team in 2012.

Rizzo endured a lot of losing before the Cubs finally got to a point where they could consistently compete. And when they were ready, Rizzo took on the role of the captain.

After weeks of speculation, it was announced that Anthony Rizzo was being traded to the New York Yankees on Thursday afternoon.

The New York Yankees have disappointed for most of the season. But have made their intentions very clear after adding Anthony Rizzo and Joey Gallo – they’re going for it.

Social media was blowing up with the news that Rizzo was no longer going to be a Chicago Cub.

The Anthony Rizzo trade marks the end of an era in Chicago. And it might be somewhat surprising given where the Yankees currently stand in their division.

New York is currently nine games back of the Red Sox for first place in the AL East. But they’re a few games behind the A’s for the second wild card spot.

The Yankees are hoping a successful Trade Deadline will change their fortune in 2021. Anthony Rizzo and Joey Gallo is a good place to start.
