The Dolphins have stated that they are committed to Tua Tagovailoa as their starter for the 2021 NFL season. However, certain unnamed players have expressed their disinterest in the rookie quarterback. On Wednesday, Miami Herald columnist Armando Salguero spoke to three anonymous Dolphins players about Tua. They told him they’re unimpressed with the young QB. The players went on to say that they were shocked when the team decided to start Tua, despite Ryan Fitzpatrick’s success as the starter.

Inner team drama is never good, especially when it revolves around the quarterback position. The anonymous Dolphins players stated their lack of interest in Tua dating back to training camp.
“They said they were unimpressed by Tua during training camp to the point they thought he wouldn’t be ready to play in 2020. They said they were “caught totally off guard,” as one put it, when Tagovailoa was named the starter the seventh game of the season.”
And another said that before the season finale when players were informed by Flores that Ryan Fitzpatrick would not be available against the Buffalo Bills, he was disappointed because he believes Fitzpatrick was better than Tagovailoa. …

The unnamed players drew comparisons to other AFC quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Deshaun Watson. “Those are the boys we got to beat, right?” this player said. “It looks right now like that’s going to be a big challenge.”
It will be interesting to see how this situation is handled in the Dolphins locker room. The players remain anonymous for now, but you have to think they are known within the organization, which is what ultimately matters for Tua.
