The Baseball world was shook when it was announced that future Hall-of-Famer Albert Pujols was being released by the Los Angeles Angels.

While Pujols has been on a steady decline in recent years, it was widely assumed that the Angels would keep him around until his contract is up at the end of the year. After all, he is one of the best to ever do it. Disrespectful as it may be, the Angels made their business decision, and Pujols will have to live with it.

After the release, Pujols stayed firm that he did not want to retire. The veteran slugger cleared waivers and is now free to sign with any team. But another option may be more enticing.

Albert Pujols want to play everyday; I’m not sure any MLB team could grant him that wish. Why not just take this opportunity to play in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics with the Dominican Republic team?

According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the Dominican is interested in having Pujols join them for the qualifier starting May 31.

The Dominican Republic will face Puerto Rico, the United States and Nicaragua in the group stage. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-final. And the winner of each tournament gets an automatic bid to the Olympics. The second and third place teams will head to another qualifying event in June.

If I’m Albert Pujols, I think it would be pretty cool to go play in the initial qualifier, at least.

Who knows? Maybe you tear it up, and an MLB team comes calling for the second half of the season. It’s definitely an option for Albert. But he seems pretty set on getting another job in the MLB. At least for now.
