Adam Gase Admits That He Failed With The Development Of Sam Darnold

Adam Gase’s success with the New York Jets was always going to be tied to how he was able to develop Sam Darnold. After about two NFL seasons, it’s clear that not much development has gone on.

It has gotten so bad with Gase in New York, that it is truly astonishing that the man still has a job. Particularly after comments he made today about his inability to get the most out of Darnold.

“I came here to help him, help him develop his career, and we haven’t been able to do that,” said Gase via ESPN. “We need to do things well around him, but at the same time, it’s on me to get him to play better than what he’s played. I haven’t done a good enough job.”

These comments may seem obvious to some, but they were pretty surprising to me. Throughout Adam Gase’s tenure in New York, he has been adamant that progress is being made with turning Sam Darnold into an NFL quarterback. Now, it almost seems like Gase is just throwing in the towel completely.

Gase is now 7-20 as the head coach of the New York Jets, 0-11 this year. Gase is a dead man walking, he will undoubtedly be fired at the end of the season. The only question that remains for the disgruntled coach is whether or not he’ll even win a game in 2020.

I truly wonder where Adam Gase goes after New York. Nobody else in the NFL will take a chance on him, right?
