Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers shocked the world when he let it slip he was engaged.  Out of nowhere, he thanked his fiance during an MVP acceptance speech. Not only did it shock everyone, it was also reportedly a huge surprise to his loved ones, who initially believed she was ‘a rebound’ following his split from long-term girlfriend Danica Patrick.

Apparently they hit it off very quickly, according to the report:

“It was a surprise that they got so close so quickly,” a source close to the athlete tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue. “I mean, it really felt like one day he was with Danica Patrick, and then suddenly he was with Shailene. It happened super fast.”

“It was so fast that at first, we thought she was just a rebound,” says the source close to Rodgers. “There was no way this could be so serious. Everyone thought it was a casual thing because that’s what he was telling everyone, even when it was clearly not a casual thing.”

Rodgers is no spring chicken, and he has zero marriages under his belt.

So clearly he must have felt that Shailene was the one.
