Aaron Rodgers Retirement Back Trending Following Davante Adams News

Aaron Rodgers will be without his longtime #1 option, Davante Adams, next season.

After Adams informed the Packers that he had no intention of playing under the franchise tag next year, it was reported on Thursday afternoon that Green Bay had agreed to a deal with the Raiders for the star receiver.

Shortly after the bombshell news was revealed, Aaron Rodgers’ retirement was back trending (even though he announced last week that he had worked out a contract to remain the QB for the foreseeable future).

To the contrary of all the reports, NFL insider Ian Rapoport said that the Packers had told Aaron Rodgers about their plans for Davante Adams well before he inked his extension — making sure he wasn’t blindsided by a potential deal.

“While Aaron Rodgers was negotating his contract, he knew Davante Adams would never play for the #Packers again. The situation was too far gone. Something had to give. And when Adams informed GB he wasn’t playing on the tag, talks got fired up. Now, Adams will be on the #Raiders,” he tweeted.

So while Aaron Rodgers will remain the QB in Green Bay, it’s hard to imagine the offense being anywhere near as dynamic without Davante Adams at the #1 receiver position.
