A Little Sumo Wrestler Taking Out A Much Bigger Kid During A Match Is A Real Inspirational Moment In Sports

Normally, a size disparity in boxing or MMA can be a major disadvantage. But there are no weight classes in Japanese sumo. It’s pure mettle versus mettle with the best man, or little man, needing to overcome and win regardless of situation.

And, while I don’t know when this video that recently resurfaced on Reddit’s r/fightporn took place, it’s easily one of my favorite sports moments I’ve seen this year.

In addition to the fundamentally sound “low center of gravity” that the kid brings to the table, it’s simply a classic David/Goliath battle. The bigger kid should likely trounce the smaller one. At times, it almost seems like he has him beat sheerly because of that size as the little dude bounces off of him like a pinball.

But the smaller guy never gives up. He keeps pushing. He refuses to go down. He avoids defeat at every turn. And you can see the determination on his little face, easily the most determined a child has ever looked while he gives one of his peers a wedgie.

There’s probably a metaphor somewhere in there about never giving up. Maybe another one about it not being about the size of the dog in the fight but rather the size of the fight in the dog. But all I know is that little dude is a pure badass and his large opponent should be ashamed for letting his natural talents of being big and also wide go to waste.

I may not know sumo culture but I have to believe Yokozuna would be proud:

E Honda too:

E Honda: Surprisingly jacked despite that sumo body. I guess that’s what constant bonus round workouts of slapping cars to their destruction will do for you. Tell P90x.
