Vindication for Kendall Jennner: 10 Protest Moments to Make You Laugh, Smile or Feel

There are so many amazing images coming out of rightfully furious protesters across the country over the last 10 days. The pain and anguish caused by our 400-year festering national open wound will not heal in a day, a week or even a generation. With brutal images at every turn, I wanted to take a minute to focus on some of the uplifting or even amusing messages, moments and protests that came out over the last few weeks.

People are protesting with comedy, or just in ways that make us smile or feel an up-swell of support or, even in some cases, laugh. If you don’t believe that laughter can be as powerful as anger or tears, I’d love to introduce you to the comedy of Richard Pryor, Dave Chappelle, Lenny Bruce, George Carlin and so very many more.

Protest can come in all forms, these are just a few of my favorites.

Vindication for Kendall Jenner

If you don’t remember Kendall Jenner and Pepsi’s 2017 protest ad, it was this, only 2000 times more tone deaf and insensitive. In the ad, Jenner breaks a Black Lives Matter protest line to offer a policeman a Pepsi, subsequently solving racial tensions forever. To say it was poorly received is an understatement.

This person is a comedic genius for remembering it and making the call-back for the whole world to see. Nice plug for Pepsi too.

Tragedy + Comedy – Time = Twitter

This dude won the internet and protest comedy. Picking this angle on how to motivate the white brunch crowd to take to the streets says so very much in one fantastic joke. I’m confident that if this were true a lot of young white conservatives would be quickly changing sides.

Twitter – Trump = Better World

This dude created a Twitter account that exclusively tweeted word-for-word copies of what the president tweeted in an experiment to see how quickly he would be suspended. He started the account on May 29 at 10:30 p.m., it was suspended by 2 p.m. on June 1. For saying exactly what the president said.

Superheroes on the Right Side of History

The superheroes have arrived. Spider-Man took to the Manhattan Bridge to rally the protest crowd. Comedy points to the dude in the video who shouts out the “You mess with one of us, you mess with ALL of us!” line from the strikingly similar bridge scene in the first Rami-Maguire Spider-Man.

Not to be outdone, the Caped Crusader left Gotham for the streets of D.C. Batman used his bullhorn to deliver a message to the troops surrounding the White House. There’s a sentence I never thought I’d type.

The Force is Strong With You, John Boyega

The possibly Force-sensitive Finn in the new Star Wars trilogy, actor John Boyega, took his passion to the streets to join the protest. Creator Jordan Peele has his back here.

The passion on display in the images of Boyega is clear. Remember, this is someone who was himself boycotted for having the unmitigated nerve to appear in a Star Wars movie as a Storm Trooper while being black. Now that I’m thinking about it, we should have known then how much the other side of this embraces racism and fascism.

So Very Many Dance Protests

Hang onto these for the next time you see that one Uncle and he starts telling you about all the violent protests.

She’d do a better job than either candidate and we both know it. I dare you to watch this and tell us in the comments or on Twitter that it didn’t move you, and why you’re a emotionless monster. THIS is America.
