Tiger Woods Gives Telling Update on His Injured Leg

Tiger Woods is human after all.

The PGA living legend ended up finishing at 4-over 74, nine shots back of playing partner and four-time major winner Rory McIlroy, who held the lead after the first round was completed.

After his round, Woods said his right leg was in pain.

“I just can’t load it,” Woods said. “Loading hurts, pressing off it hurts, walking hurts and twisting hurts. It’s just golf. I don’t play that, if I don’t do that, then I’m all right.”

Woods hit 10 of 14 fairways in the round but just seven of 18 greens. He was 2-for-6 on sand saves and 4-of-11 scrambling, after leaving himself with too many tricky putts. A few of his trademark “stingers” off the tee were offline.

“I did not hit a lot of good iron shots,” Woods said. “I drove it well, but my iron shots were not very good. I didn’t get the ball very close. I got off to a great start and didn’t keep it going. I really didn’t give myself any looks for birdie. I was struggling trying to get the ball on the green, and I missed quite a few iron shots both ways. It was a frustrating day.”

Tiger is playing in just his second official tour event since he was seriously injured in a car accident outside Los Angeles in February 2021.

It’s going to take some more time for Tiger to adjust playing with an injured leg.

But never count him out, that’s exactly when he’ll surprise us all.
