Colorado Avalanche forward Valeri Nichushkin was simply not going to let excruciating pain stop him from playing a vital role in the series-clincher on Sunday night.
After the Avs won the Stanley Cup, Nichushkin revealed a nasty image of his injured foot. According to the team, Nichushkin had to have his skate put on for him by medical personnel, and fought through the pain for 23 minutes of ice time.

Valeri Nichushkin played through a foot injury last night and couldn’t get his skate on without medical assistance, according to a league source. Once he had the skate on, it was a question of playing through the pain, which he was able to do for nearly 23 minutes of ice time. pic.twitter.com/VFTaWzhVgU

Earlier in the postseason, Avs head coach Jared Bednar spoke on what Valeri Nichushkin means to the team.
“He’s a huge X factor,” Bednar said of Nichushkin. “He’s had an incredible season so far. He’s been a difference-maker almost every night for us. His ability to check, and check pucks back to keep us playing offense, you saw it on display tonight. He had some real good scoring chances for himself, and obviously a big play at the net to set up [Burakovsky]. He’s been playing [well] with MacKinnon and Landeskog on that line.”
Luckily for Valeri Nichushkin, he can now rest easy on that foot while also celebrating his first Stanley Cup Championship.
Hockey players, man…
