Over the weekend, the sports world shook after it was announced that Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins had tragically passed away.

He was crossing the highway early Sunday morning when hit by a truck. Haskins was just 24 years old.

Today, a man who claims he witnessed Dwayne Haskins is speaking out to share what he saw.

Florida resident Chris Stanley said he was coming back from dropping off his daughter at the airport when he noticed a man leaving his car on the highway, and became immediately worried.

“I was dropping off my daughter to an airline at the Fort Lauderdale Airport in the morning,” he said, via NBC 6 South Florida.

“And what I noticed was a Mack truck, or a big tractor-trailer, with also another vehicle that started moving a little bit to the left. I was in the left lane and then there was the right lane. And then I noticed an individual there starting to make their way onto the road.

“He was about halfway, to a quarter way in the right lane, already onto the highway and I was already concerned that somebody was going to strike him right there at that moment.”

Stanley said he called 9-1-1 shortly thereafter, worrying already that Dwayne Haskins was going to get hit by a vehicle on the highway. That phone call reportedly happened at 6:31 am, the time of death for Haskins was 6:37 am.

The QB was in Florida training with fellow Steelers quarterbacks and skill players prior to Training Camp. It’s unclear why he was trying to get across the highway at this time, but some have speculated that his car had run out of gas, and he was trying to resolve the problem on his own.

Since his death, teammates from every stage of his life have shared the positive influence Dwayne Haskins had on them.

RIP
