Deshaun Watson Suspension: Report Suggest What Penalty QB Would Accept

At this point, it’s just a matter of how long Deshaun Watson will be suspended.

Even though a judge handed down a six game suspension following an investigation into sexual harassment claims, the NFL quickly sent in an appeal to try to create a longer penalty.

According to early reports, the NFL is seeking out a 12 game suspension for Deshaun Watson.

Now, it’s seeming like Deshaun Watson and his reps are hoping for some sort of middle ground between the original six games, and the 12 games the NFL is seeking.

Per AP:

“Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson would accept an eight-game suspension and $5 million fine to avoid missing the entire season, a person familiar with his defense told The Associated Press on Thursday.

Watson, who is facing a potential year-long ban for sexual misconduct, would agree to a lesser penalty in a settlement, said the person who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case.

The biggest question is whether the NFL would make this compromise.”

Earlier today, it was reported that the Browns might look to make a move on Jimmy Garoppolo if Deshaun Watson is suspended for an extended period of time.

“The Browns will consider acquiring Jimmy Garoppolo if Deshaun Watson’s six-game suspension significantly increases upon appeal, league sources tell cleveland.com,” Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot said earlier today.

As of now, the Browns plan on playing Deshaun Watson for some significant reps this preseason, but veteran Jacoby Brissett is slated as the next man up for when a suspension gets handed down.
