Is Pete Carroll ready to turn over the Seahawks offense to Drew Lock?

After Geno Smith has been given the keys to the offense for all of Training Camp, Lock finally got his chance to play with the first-teamers this week.

And at first, Drew Lock was supposed to start the preseason game against the Bears on Thursday.

Still, Pete Carroll was adamant that Geno Smith is still “the guy” in Seattle.

“We had planned (this) well back before the offseason even started, to get to this game, the second game,” Carroll said via PFT, via video from the post-practice news conference. “Geno would get the start in the opening game, and then we’d go with Drew in the second game.”

Now, though, Drew lock will have to watch Thursday’s game from home.

Late in the afternoon, it was revealed that Lock has tested positive for COVID, and will not be able to play against the Bears on Thursday.

Obviously, this is a huge missed opportunity for Drew Lock.

“Huge opportunity lost for Drew Lock, who was supposed to start at QB. Competing with Geno Smith,” said insider Ed Werder.

Given his familiarity with the Seahawks’ offense, it would appear that Smith is already on the inside track to start for Seattle during Week One of the regular season. And it certainly doesn’t help that Lock will now have to miss time with a COVID diagnosis.

Still, I would imagine that both Drew Lock and Geno Smith se some time under center for the Seahawks this season, and Lock should definitely have a chance to prove himself somewhere down the line.
