Pete Carroll Slams NFL Owners Over Minority Hires

Pete Carroll has had an eventful offseason.

The 70 year old head coach of the Seahawks drew some criticism when the team trade away superstar quarterback Russell Wilson to the Broncos. But it’s something else entirely that has Carroll fed up: he wants to see more minority hires in the NFL.

Yesterday, it was revealed that Pete Carroll ripped into NFL owners during a recent meeting with general managers and owners across the NFL.

“He just went off,” a source with knowledge of Carroll’s comments told ESPN. “He was saying, you can do anything but until owners get to know these candidates before the actual interviews and understand that they have to hire people who are different than them, it’s not going to really change.”

ESPN would also report that NFL owners “weren’t happy” after hearing Pete Caroll’s passionate rant.

Carroll has been the head coach of the Seahawks for 12 season now. And while none of his four offensive coordinators have been a minority, he has played a role in hiring three African-American defensive coordinators (Kris Richard, Ken Norton Jr. and Clint Hurtt).

Earlier in the offseason, Pete Carroll talked about the possibility of bringing in Colin Kaepernick. But for now, it appears the team is moving forward with Drew Lock as their QB.
