NFL Insider Reveals How Much Money Deshaun Watson’s Six Game Suspension Will Cost Him

FILE - Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson looks on during the NFL football team's training camp, Thursday, July 28, 2022, in Berea, Ohio. Watson was suspended without pay for six games Monday, Aug. 1, 2022, for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy following accusations of sexual misconduct made against him by two dozen women in Texas, two people familiar with the decision said. Looks like Deshaun Watson’s wallet is going to be just a tad lighter.

Courts ruled that Watson’s punishment would be a six-game suspension without pay for the time missed. Under his new deal with the Cleveland Browns, the quarterback boasts a base salary of $1.035 million in year one. The suspension does not come with a fine, nor will it affect his $45 million signing bonus.

With a per game average of $57,500, a six-game suspension will result in Watson losing $345,000.

See the report below:

The Browns were more than happy to help Watson out. After this season his yearly salary goes from just over $1 million to a guaranteed $46 million per year from 2023-2026.

If that suspension would’ve come while he was making $46 million, he would’ve lost over $15 million.

Talk about an enabler.
