Mike Tomlin Blames Cut and Paste Error For Mistakenly Making Mason Rudolph QB2 on Depth Chart

According to a report, the Pittsburgh Steelers are eyeing three quarterbacks in free agency along with Malike Willis in the draft to replace Ben Roethlisberger

Clerical errors do happen.

When the Pittsburgh Steelers released their depth chart for Week 1 yesterday, it became 100% official that former Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky had won the starting job for the Steel City. Not necessarily a surprise but the Steelers did make it interesting there for a while, claiming that it was a legitimate battle between Trubisky, Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph. Trubisky came out on top of the heap with the pole position on the QB depth chart. Fans quickly noticed Trubisky’s backup was not Pickett, but it was Mason Rudolph, who is best known for getting hit with a helmet by Myles Garrett. Normally not a big deal who is listed as the #2 on the depth chart, with the goal of Trubisky hopefully thriving.  But now we’re learning Rudolph is actually QB3, not QB2.

It turns out it was just a mistake. Mike Tomlin spoke to reporters today and said that Pickett was the No. 2 behind Trubisky, not Rudolph. How did this mistake happen? Tomlin blames cut and paste.

To mostly everyone, it doesn’t really matter who is 2 or 3 on the depth chart.  Tomlin can put in whoever he pleases if Trubisky does go down, he really doesn’t have to adhere to the official depth chart.   But it seems he puts a big emphasis on the exact order of things, as he later explained, which I believe is all about building Kenny Pickett’s confidence moving forward.

Not the best start to the season for the Steelers and their 3 QBs.
