Los Angeles Rams Head Coach Sean McVay Explains Cam Akers Lack Of Usage Vs. The Bills

Fantasy managers take note.

Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers tore his Achilles in training camp last July. It was a devastating injury that typically wipes a player out for an entire season. But with the Los Angeles Rams making a Super Bowl push, Akers returned in January just in time for their playoff run. However Akers was not very effective carrying the ball when he returned, rushing 67 times for 172 yards, plus he didn’t score any Touchdowns. Word on the street going into this year is Akers would once again be the guy, and see plenty of action. A lot of that turned out not to be true on Thursday night, as Cam Akers was barely used at all.

Akers was not listed on the injury report. In fact, Akers was even very optimistic when asked earlier this week about his availability for Thursday Night’s game vs. Buffalo:

“I know I’m healthy. Everybody else will just get to see (Thursday). I’m not trying to go show anybody that I’m healthy. I’m just going to play my game.” – Cam Akers, via Gilbert Manzano of The Orange County Register.

The depth chart showed Akers as the #1, and he was not listed on the injury report. So what gives? McVay was asked about it in his post game press conference following the tough loss.

Something doesn’t add up with Akers, otherwise why not put him in there to get the offense possibly clicking.

There’s fantasy, and Akers not playing much was a harsh reality.
