LeSean McCoy Hot Take: Bill Belichick Would Have Been Just a Regular Coach Without Tom Brady

A bunch of fans and media members are convinced Bill Belichick orchestrated the entire Brian Flores racism lawsuit to get his revenge on the NFL

Hot take alert.

Former NFL running back LeSean McCoy is one of the new regulars on Speak, which is FS1’s rebranded version of Speak For Yourself. McCoy joined Joy Taylor and Emmanuel Acho to deliver some headlines.  The panel  was discussing  the possibility of New England Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick retiring after this season and LeSean McCoy unleashed a hot take.

“I won’t call him overrated because he’s a great coach, but he’s not what the world thinks he is. Listen, every head coach in the AFC will say thi thing I’m saying right now. Without Tom Brady he’s be a regular coach. A regular coach. Good coach, but not great.””I won’t call him overrated because he’s a great coach, but he’s not what the world thinks he is. Listen, every head coach in the AFC will say thi thing I’m saying right now. Without Tom Brady he’s be a regular coach. A regular coach. Good coach, but not great.”

McCoy came prepared with Bill Belichick’s record with and without Tom, which obviously is pretty relevant to his take on Belichcick being just average. If only McCoy didn’t undercut his own argument by calling Belichick both “good” and “great” in the same minute he was trying to say he’s a regular coach. It’s all a bit confusing, he’s trying to minimize him as a coach but also praising him at the same time.

As for Acho’s prediction that Belichick will retire,  well that’s inevitable.  He’s the second oldest coach in the NFL behind Pete Carroll.  It will have nothing to do with how good they were at their jobs.

But maybe if Belichick doesn’t feeel like he has a chance of winning another one without Tom, maybe he will call it a career, rather than continue to reinforce the notion that he needed Tom.
