Kyler Murray Reportedly ‘Won’t Be Too Eager to Play’ Under Current Contract Conditions

Looks like the Kyler Murray drama isn’t quite over yet.

The Cardinals dealt with the drama earlier in this offseason, when quarterback Kyler Murray scrubbed the team from his social media. Murray tried to explain why he did what he did.

Cardinals picked up that deal’s fifth-year option for 2023 but Murray wants an extension still. He did commit to playing in AZ, and was not looking  to be traded.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Murray “won’t be too eager to play” under his current contract conditions.

Fowler continued:

“Many NFL execs consider Murray in the same QB class as the  Raiders’ Derek Carr, who recently got a $121.4 million extension over three years.”

Murray reportedly seeking to be the highest-paid quarterback in the desert.

Fowler added: “Perhaps Murray can get slightly more per year due to age (24 to Carr’s 31) and a higher ceiling.” 

Cardinals GM Steve Keim has made no bones about his intention to retain Murray.

“Nothing has changed in terms of him being our long-term and short-term quarterback,” Keim said in April, per ESPN.

Eventually Murray will get what he wants, but the Cardinals are in no rush to give him his extension. It’s all  posturing at this stage of the offseason.
