Jay Cutler Opens Up On The Future Of Justin Fields

Brandon Marshall revealed an all-time Jay Cutler reaction when he told the QB that he was down $70,000 in Las Vegas and needed to be bailed out

For the first time since Jay Cutler, the Chicago Bears have a franchise quarterback.

After moving up in the draft to select Justin Fields in the draft last offseason, the Bears made it clear that they were prioritizing the QB position, moving away from Mitchell Trubisky and taking on chance on the dual threat QB.

Unfortunately, year one wasn’t smooth sailing for Fields in Chicago. After coming into the season as the backup to Andy Dalton, Fields struggled when he finally got the chance to take the field. But still, Jay Cutler has faith in Justin Fields.

“I like him,” Cutler said of Fields. “He’s got all the tools, but it’s the same problem the Bears have had for a long time: They’re turning over coaches and turning over OCs. It’s hard for a quarterback. You look across the league and the guys that are really good at quarterback have the same coaches and same systems each year.

Like Justin Fields, Jay Cutler knows a thing or two about incompetent coaching with the Chicago Bears.

With Cutler at the helm, the Bears went through Love Smith, Mark Trestman, and John Fox as their head coaches. In his first season, Fields was paired with Matt Nagy as his head coach and play-caller. Now, he’ll have a whole new offense and new head coach in Matt Eberflus to try to push him to the next level.

Even with the changeover, Jay Cutler thinks Justin Fields can prove to be the QB Chicago has been desperately craving for many years.

“If the Bears start winning — I hope they do — and I hope Justin is successful, and I hope he’s the next big thing here and he’s the best quarterback to come out of Chicago Bears history,”
