The USFL is up and running. And already, we’re seeing some of the ridiculousness of a professional football league that isn’t the NFL.

Last week, a video of the Pittsburgh maulers cutting running back De’Veon Smith went viral.

In the bizarre story, the team claimed Smith was being disrespectful of a cafeteria worker. Supposedly, he was upset that the only option for lunch was chicken salad. Instead, he wanted to know if he could have a slice of pizza.

Check out the video of the team parting ways with De’Veon Smith:

After receiving backlash on the web, the Pittsburgh Maulers sent out a statement on the De’Veon Smith situation. According to them, the cafeteria situation wasn’t the only time Smith violated a team rule.

After seeing the statement, De’Veon Smith slammed the team — saying they blatantly lied about why they decided to part ways with him over the weekend.

The De’Veon Smith video was leaked thanks to the USFL showcasing a behind-the-scenes look at their teams in a television series.

In the first week, the USL actually had some success — garnering over 3 Million viewers all over the country.

In the end, the Pittsburgh Maulers clearly didn’t like De’Veon Smith’s vibe. But at the end of the day, it seems like all the man wanted was a slice of pizza instead of chicken salad.

Can you blame him??
