Colin Kaepernick Being Linked To The Browns Amid Deshaun Watson Uncertainty

Kaepernick is getting his first chance to work out for an NFL team since last playing in the league in 2016 when he started kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial inequality. Would Colin Kaepernick be an option to hold down the fort for the Browns if Deshaun Watson has his suspension expanded?

Last week, a judge ruled that Watson would only be suspended for six games. But shortly thereafter, the NFL was quick to start an appeals process that could spell doom for the superstar QB’s chances of playing at all next season.

Now, Deshaun Watson and the Cleveland Browns will be forced to continue to wait for a clear decision on a suspension. And perhaps it’s time they start searching around for a potential long-term replacement.

Of course, social media was already cooking up potential replacement plans for Watson. One name that stood out more than the rest was Colin Kaepernick.

Colin Kaepernick To The Browns?

The former 49ers QB has been out of the league ever since his kneeling scandal in 2016. The Seahawks had brought him in for a couple throwing sessions earlier in the offseason, but it seems as though they’ll stick with their current QB room consisting of Drew Lock and Geno Smith.

Still, fans are clamoring for the Browns to give Kaepernick a look.

Last week, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski spoke on the idea of bringing in Colin Kaepernick.

‘I am not going to have those type of discussions on who we have looked at and have not. I will kind of leave that internal,” he said via Browns beat writer Tony Grossi.

It still fells like a long shot that the Browns would legitimately consider Colin Kaepernick to fill-in for Deshaun Watson. But perhaps it’s something to keep an eye on moving forward.
