The Chicago Bears are stuck with a tough situation regarding star linebacker Roquan Smith.

After contract extension talks stalled over the offseason, Smith demanded to be traded last week, citing his feeling that he was being disrespected.

“I haven’t had the chance to talk to the McCaskey family, and maybe they can salvage this, but as of right now I don’t see a path back to the organization I truly love,” Smith said in a statement at the time.

As Roquan Smith continues to sit out Training Camp, FS1 host Colin Cowherd offered an idea for the Bears: just pull the plug.

“This is your Monta Ellis-Steph Curry moment… Be the Warriors and not the Bears,” Cowherd ranted during “The Herd” today.

After the trade demand, Bears general manager Ryan poles maintained that he would still like to get a deal done with the linebacker in a perfect scenario.

“I’ll double down on what I’ve said before: My feelings for Roquan haven’t changed at all,” Poles said at the time. “I think he’s a very good football player. I love the kid. I love what he’s done on the field, which makes me really disappointed with where we’re at right now.”

In Colin Cowherd’s defense, inside linebackers such as Smith are not getting paid top-dollar in the current NFL market. And by the sounds of it, Smith is asking for about $100 Million to be paid as one of the top defenders in the league.

As the Roquan Smith situation remains fluid, we’ll continue to provide updates as they come.
