Despite being in on several big-named quarterbacks this offseason, the Panthers remain stuck with Sam Darnold as their QB1 as of now.

But being as they currently have the #6 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, many are predicting the Panthers will select their quarterback of the future with the selection. However, it may not be who you would expect.

Even as many are projecting Pitt’s Kenny Pickett and Liberty’s Malik Willis as the top two QB prospects in the draft, NFL insider Peter Schrager says the team is doing its due diligence on Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral.

The Kenny Pickett buzz makes a little bit more sense than Matt Corral.

Out of high School, panthers coach Matt Rhule got familiar with Pickett when trying to recruit him. And he has remained in touch with the quarterback throughout the draft process.

However, Corral is a potential home run prospect of his own. Under the tutelage of Lane Kiffin, Corral blossomed into a bonafide Heisman candidate during his time at Ole Miss — showing rarer size, speed and throwing ability.

Perhaps if Rhule and the Panthers want to go with a more high-risk high-reward option, Matt Corral could be a surprise selection with the sixth overall pick.
