For now, the Browns are completely stuck with Baker Mayfield.

After trading and extending Deshaun Watson, many believed that a Mayfield trade would occur shortly thereafter. But now, the Browns asking price for the former first round pick is too high for teams. And the general consensus is that any interested organization is waiting to see if he ends up getting released prior to the season.

On Tuesday, NFL insider Josina Anderson reported that the Browns might be willing to drag out the Baker Mayfield situation — even having him suit up as the backup for Deshaun Watson when the time comes.

“While anything can happen my understanding is the #Browns currently plan a patient approach w/ Baker Mayfield’s situation,” Anderson reports.

“It’s also entirely possible they enter the regular season with Mayfield still on the roster & in position to suit up pending Deshaun Watson’s playing status.”

Baker mayfield asked to be traded once the Browns’ interest in Deshaun Watson went public, even sending out a lengthy ‘thank you’ letter to Cleveland at one point.

But ultimately, his fate for the 2022-23 season comes down to what the Browns are willing to do with Baker. It’s still unknown whether or not Watson will face suspension following an NFL investigation.

If no teams are willing to bite at Baker mayfield’s services, the Browns could just be content making him wait for his next destination, perhaps even seeing if any injuries to quarterbacks around the league occur before pulling the trigger on a trade.
