Are the Pittsburgh Steelers going to be surprising people this year?

After losing longtime quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to retirement following last season, the Steelers are working through a three horse QB competition between Mason Rudolph, Mitchell Trubisky, and Kenny Pickett.

Even with so much uncertainty surrounding the Steelers season, bettors seem to be comfortable taking a waiver on them to win the Super Bowl.

According to one bookmaker, the Steelers Super Bowl bets are flying in.

“I can’t work a shift without seeing money on the Pittsburgh Steelers to win the Super Bowl,” one bookmaker told VSIN’s Ben Fawkes.

This week, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin gave little insight when talking about his quarterback competition.

“All three of these guys have performed well,” Tomlin said via Sports Illustrated. “I really think the main emphasis and the mentality regarding how we structured it this week is that we simply want to see Kenny in more varsity action. We know more about Mason. Mitch has been around the professional game, obviously. So, this is a big week for him in terms of maybe getting in the first half of this game and I would imagine getting the opportunity to see frontline defenders for Jacksonville. I’m excited about those guys continuing to work, lead, make plays and take care of the football, all the things that we value.”

No matter who plays quarterback for the Steelers, they’ll likely be relying on their defense to win games, like they have for the past few years.

During his long tenure as head coach, Tomlin has consistently had a winner in Pittsburgh. But it’ll be interesting to see if they can remain the class of the AFC North even without Big Ben under center.
