It felt like it was only a matter of time before Aaron Rodgers grew tired of working with his new-look receivers group. And sure enough, that time has come.
Earlier today, Rodgers held back no punches when talking about his receivers’ dismal performance so far in Training Camp.
“The young guys, especially young receivers, we’ve got to be way more consistent,” Rodgers said to ESPN. “A lot of drops, a lot of bad route decisions, running the wrong route. We’ve got to get better in that area.”

Aaron Rodgers pointed to the season being right around the corner when elaborating on his frustrations.
“It’s coming up,” Rodgers said of the regular season. “Yeah, it’s coming up. It really is. We’re going to play our best guys when the season starts. And whoever those guys are, those guys are going to get the reps. It’s the guys I trust the most and the guys the coaches trust the most. A lot of it is just the simple responsibility in the offense. Way before body positioning and movement and throw, and all that stuff, are you in the right spot at the right time? Are you running the right route?”
With Davante Adams being traded to the Raiders in the offseason, Marquez Valdes-Scantling going to the Chiefs, and several other moving pieces, Rodgers will now be relying on Allen Lazard as his WR1.
“He’s capable of a lot,” Rodgers said earlier in Training Camp. “And the way things have gone with the reps and the guys that we’ve had here and the targets that we’ve doled out, he hasn’t had a ton of opportunities. Since his first day here, he’s turned heads, so it’s not surprising for him to go out and have a really consistent day today. But he’s been working hard. He has a lot to prove, to himself, to other people, to the team as well. I like a hungry Allen Lazard. It will be an adjustment for us, but I’m happy with Day 1.”
If the Packers fail to reach their championship standards this season, the Achilles heel will likely prove to be the receiving group. And by the sounds of Aaron Rodgers, he knows it.
