Updated NBA Rookie of the Year Odds Following Thunder Announcing Chet Holmgren Out for Season

Looks like the NBA Rookie of the Year Odds are on the move.

With an injury to one of the potential NBA Rookie of the Year award winners, the entire NBA Rookie of the Year odds have shifted. Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Chet Holmgren will miss the 2022-2023 season because of a Lisfranc injury to his right foot, the team announced Thursday.

Holmgren, the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s NBA draft, suffered the injury Saturday while defending LeBron James on a fast break during a pro-am game in Seattle.

“Certainly, we are disappointed for Chet, especially given the excitement he had about getting on the floor with his teammates this season,” Thunder general manager Sam Presti said in a statement. “We know Chet has a long career ahead of him within our organization and the Oklahoma City community. One of the things that most impressed us during the process of selecting Chet was his determination and focus. We expect that same tenacity will carry him through this period of time as we work together and support him during his rehabilitation.”

Following the brutal news that Holmgren will be out for the year, the NBA Rookie of the Year odds have been adjusted.

Updated NBA Rookie of the Year odds via DraftKings Sportsbook:

    • Paolo Banchero +200
    • Keegan Murray +450
    • Jaden Ivey +700
    • Jabari Smith +600
    • Bennedict Mathurin +1100
    • Shaedon Sharpe +3000
    • Johnny Davis +3300
    • Dyson Daniels +3300
    • Jaden Hardy +4000

Coming out of Gonzaga, one of the biggest questions surrounding Holmgren was if his lanky frail seven foot, 190-pound frame could withstand the rigors of the NBA.

As it turns out, there are concerns about his health before he even plays in a single game in the NBA.

This should definitely shake things up for the ROY award.
