Will Kyrie Irving still be a member of the Brooklyn Nets when next season rolls around?
After the tumultuous season in Brooklyn, Irving opted in to his contract for next season. But the early reports from people covering the Nets indicated that they would look to trade Irving, and the Lakers immediately surfaced as a potential suitor.
However, those trade talks stalled when LA couldn’t meet the high asking price from the Nets. And now, that price is being leaked out.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Nets wants players who can help them “win now” in return for Kyrie Irving.
“The Nets’ current stance, sources say, is that they are unwilling to send out Irving in a trade if the deal solely brings back future assets. They apparently want win-now talent in return to part with Irving, despite all of the turmoil that has engulfed the Nets for months,” Stein reports.

The last we heard of the Lakers’ pursuit of Kyrie Irving was that they were willing to part ways with two of their first round picks to land the talented point guard.

Of course, the Lakers’ reported offer centered around draft picks wouldn’t be enough for the Nets if they’re looking for players who can make an immediate impact on their team.
Earlier in the offseason, Nets GM Sean Marks hinted that he’d be willing to keep Kyrie on the team, but only if he makes a true commitment to basketball.
“He has some decisions to make on his own. We’re looking for guys that want to be something bigger than themselves, play team basketball, and be available. That goes for Kyrie and everybody here,” Marks said after the season.
For now, it seems the Nets are intent on hanging on to Irving unless someone meets their asking price. And it’ll be interesting to see if the Lakers (or any other team) can put together a package that would satisfy Brooklyn’s front office.
